CritterKill Moth Killer Spray - 1 Litre

To our horror my wife and I discovered our house was under attack from a large infestation of carpet moths. At first, we noticed a small amount of damage to our carpets and put this down to my son’s cat that we were looking after for a few weeks but then suddenly holes appeared everywhere. It was only after closer inspection we discovered the larvae that were eating us out of house and home and the penny soon dropped. The thing was, we hardly ever saw moths flying about and it was only after we carried out some research did we discover that carpet moths rarely fly, preferring to hide and hop around at floor level. Now armed with the knowledge of what we were dealing with we set about devising a plan to eradicate the little blighters. This involved initially steam cleaning all the carpets in the house after heavy duty vacuuming. Steam is known to kill moths at all stages of their life cycle and is the most effective way of tackling a heavy infestation. The second part of the plan was to spray all affected areas of carpets and along the skirting boards where they met, with a powerful insecticide. Critterkill was chosen after researching many of the alternatives as it contained the active ingredient Cypermethrin. You will find that most proprietary insecticides costing two or three times more than Critterkill all contain the same amount of Cypermethrin. This appears to have been an excellent choice as it is colourless, odourless, very strong and supplied in a decent quantity at a very reasonable price (compared to competitors). Next, we dusted under beds and furniture with ant killer powder. It is recommended to vacuum up the powder after a few hours if used in exposed places but we decided to leave it in place as no access can be gained by our pets and it should remain active for several months. Incidentally, ant killer is the same product as powders designated specifically for moths but at half the price as the active ingredient is Permethrin at 0.46% W/W. The final stage of our plan is to monitor the situation. To do this we have laid out ten pheromone bait stations around the house. These attract the male adult moth and this gives an indication of how effective the eradication treatment has been. To date we have only caught two moths and this was the day after treatment. This is very encouraging and suggests the treatment has worked well. However, it will be many months of vigilance, if not longer, before we can be absolutely sure every moth and their pesky offspring have been destroyed. Incidentally, after treatment I set about repairing the damaged carpets and found it surprisingly easy using spare bits of carpet, a glue gun and napping duckbill scissors.
